The visible fruit of a person not knowing who they are is when he or she decides to become like everyone else. This person lacks identity and does not know who they are and where they are going in life.
So, in 2019, forget the resolutions and discover who you were created to be! This phenomenon begins with knowing how to love yourself, which is routed and begins in Someone else. So, before we dive in, let’s take a moment to look at why this concept of loving yourself is so important and much needed in our society.
Recognizing A Societal Problem.
We as a society are damaged, wouldn’t you agree? According to the Centers for Disease Control, suicide is rated as the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. Staggering isn’t it? And if we were honest, we can conclude that our societal problem stems from a lack of self-love. In other words, we have a problem with loving ourselves and who we were meant to be.
So Let Me Prove It To You.
How often do you find yourself comparing your looks, body, success, or life to the person next to you? How often do you criticize yourself, speaking destructive words over yourself like, “your so stupid!” in your private thoughts or moments? Are you scared of being alone or even your own company? This is only but a few of the many symptoms of self hatred. And if we were all honest, self hatred has manifested it’s ugly head in many of our lives!
So How Do We Stop This?
Naturally, like many of us do, we run to people first. And although there is nothing wrong with seeking the help on a therapeutic level, I am convinced that this will not result in long lasting change over a person’s life. If we want to bring change in our lives long term, then we need to go to Someone much higher than ourselves.
Bringing The Solution in 2019.
It’s simple, the only way, yet highly rejected. In order to understand love and apply it to yourself, you will need to know and understand who the Source of love is. You have to go to the One who designed you in the first place.
God is the source of love — true love, sincere and undefiled love. He is the same God who intentionally designed you with gifts no one else in this world can do, but you! And this God, who came down in the body of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, is the only God who can teach you how to love yourself, since He created you.
And no, this concept is not based on religion. For religion deals with only rules and regulations and no personal god interaction. But with Christ, you are dealing with a Person who will make Himself known to you by His love, if you let Him.
This concept of love, God’s love, involves a daily choice to actively learn more about Him, while allowing Him to teach you more about you. And the more you come to know and trust in Him, the more you will begin to know and experience love, self-love, since He is the source of love. And the evidence of the only love that comes straight from God is this: As you ‘naturally’ begin to love yourself, His love will project off of you and on to everyone else. That’s that supernatural love that you can possess, if God’s Spirit is living inside of you. This is by a demonstrated faith in God’s Son Jesus Christ.
What is the reward to discovering self love?
The Answer is FREEDOM! You see, learning self love is the product of learning about your true Identity, which will produce in your life freedom. For where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Freedom. This will produce confidence in your life, as you learn and grow in Jesus Christ. This will produce direction in your life, as you keep your eyes stayed fixed on Him. And this will produce vision for your life, as you begin to trust and move in step with the Lord’s calling over your life.
CHALLENGE FOR 2019!
I challenge you to allow the Lord to change the way you think about Him and how you view yourself in 2019! Start a relationship with Jesus and discover who He is and His love for you in the Bible. The Gospel of John is a great place to start! For His purpose on earth was to come and set you free. Free from toxic thinking, giving you life and life more abundantly!
